Teasley’s media center consists of one media specialist and one media paraprofessional.  The staff allotments are determined by the number of students attending the school.  Kindergarten and first grade have classes weekly, while students in grades 2-5 may come to the library on an as needed basis.

Media Center Information

 

Hours:

The media center is open Monday thru Friday from 7:20-2:45.



Number of Books Students Can Checkout:

Kindergarten students may checkout one book at a time. Students in first through fifth grades can checkout two books at a time.

Checkout Period:

All students may keep books for up to two weeks at a time. Books may be renewed for one additional two week period.

 

Overdue Books:

Students may not checkout additional books if any book is overdue. Late notices are distributed to homeroom teachers periodically.

Lost Books:

If a media center book appears to be lost, the student may not check out a book until the book is either found or paid for.  If you would like to pay for a book please place payment in a white school envelope and list the the name of the book and amount.  Once payment is received the student may resume check out.

Damaged Books:

Students are responsible for reimbursing the school for books that are damaged beyond use. Please help us take care of our valuable media center books.

Goals

 

The goals of the school library media programs in the Cobb County School District are
• To help students acquire the information literacy skills that will empower their intellectual, academic, and personal growth.
• To provide access to information resources and materials that support the curriculum, serve as resources for differentiated instruction, and satisfy the intellectual and aesthetic interests of students.
• To employ library media instructional practices that have a proven impact on student achievement.
• To support fellow teachers through collaborative planning, co-teaching, and co-assessment.
• To create open, inviting environments where students and staff feel comfortable seeking out information related to their academic needs or personal interests.
• To provide the resources and personal assistance needed for students and teachers to locate, evaluate, and apply information to solve problems.

Objectives

 

• Use the computers from the lab and create a mini-lab for group use in the media center.
• Educate and assist students in acquiring information through the use of the internet, Cobb Virtual Library, and available programs on our desktops.
• Solicit input for resources that will support that curriculum and differentiated instruction.  Input will be gathered through email, survey, response, curriculum directives and authority sources.  Obtain and make these materials available.
• Continue support of staff through collaborative methods.

Sponsor an orientation to help create a positive, collaborative relationship between new staff members and the media center staff.
• Create volunteer recruitment. Train and foster a positive working environment.
• Provide assistance as needed for students and teachers to locate materials and solve problems.
